Project ‘Building societies without racism”

Cooperation with the European Commission was claimed and achieved by the Social and Cultural Organization of the Municipality of Delta – KPODD. The European Commission approved KPODD’s request for €145,000 in funding to organize and implement in five European municipalities, among them at Novo Mesto Municipality, a program concerning the Rights, Equality and Values of citizens entitled “Building societies without racism». At the event in Hungary two topics were discussed. The first one “The city as an active supporter of equal opportunity practices” by representatives of Hungary, Hellas, Sweden, Italy, Denmark, France, Cyprus. During the round table, answers were given to the questions such as: Is the existence of services to support people who experience hatred speech and generally hateful communication or discrimination mandatory? Civil society is often at the forefront recognizing early signs and fighting intolerance and discrimination. References were made to good practices/service structures. Also filed practices that support those experiencing hateful communication. The second topic was “Cooperation of civil society with the state”. Representatives of Malta, Bulgaria, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Estonia, Slovenia expressed and analyzed the role of civil society. How can provide assistance to survivors, although the main responsibility for preventing and punishing hate crimes must rest with the state. Civil society leaders are reminding government authorities of their duty to report and respond to hate crimes and protect everyone. The relevant two topics discussion was held in the presence of Mr Balázs Szücs, Deputy Mayor of the VII district of Budapest, Tibor Polgár Company Manager of WESTPANNON and the delegation of KPODD President Mr. Alexandros Diamantopoulos, the Deputy of Siggiewi Municipality in Malta, Mr. Julian Borg and Deputy Mayor Mr. Angelos Pelagias from Agios Dometios Municipality of Cyprus and Deputy Mayor Mr. Francesco Piccolo and Vito Schepisi of Messina Municipality at Sicily. WESTPANNON undertook the organization of the conferences, which carried out with great success. All participants received an excellent welcome from organization’s team.
